Baby Steps lead to big throws

As the week comes to a close I reflect back on a week that included 3 throwing workouts.....OUTSIDE!!!!!

The majority of snow is gone from the fields and I was out at Strathcona Athletic Park this week with Fish (Rob Fisher).  I have fully transitioned from Ron to Fish for my coaching and was blown away with the depth and detail Fish has put into my program.  Especially when dealing with my work schedule.

My first day at the track (Tuesday) was very humbling.  Thankfully Fish was there with me to guide me on the proper path.  A lot of direct feedback is what I need to progress every time I throw.  Tuesday's workout was somewhat disappointing as there are a lot of holes in my approach and throw.  I think part of the frustration was knowing that Ron was training me as a sprinter and not a thrower.  I am in great shape but just not great throwing shape.  I think that if my program had been different since October things would be different this spring.

Thursday's workout was much different.  The feedback Fish gave me on Tuesday and throughout Thursdays workout I was able to make significant improvements.  4 step approaches with crappy High School javelins and a strong X-wind while still throwing a decent distance put my mind in a good spot moving forward.

Lots of throwing means a couple of things.  Happy Athlete, sore body.  New movements, stretches and lot's of throwing means sore legs and shoulder.  Good thing Fish has icing, chiro, massage and stretching worked into my training plan.

Looking forward to the upcoming week, although with new baby arriving anytime training will be obviously take a back seat for a while.  Of course, baby means 23 days off work for me starting Wednesday morning!!!!
